Protected Input

Stop auto clickers.

Auto clickers mash a button faster than any player. Protected Input keeps the game fair.

Protected Input - Anti-Cheat for Unity
The Problem

A tool can click faster than any person.

Auto clickers and macros press a button hundreds of times a second. A person cannot. That is an unfair edge.

Clicker games gain resources on every extra click.

A pistol can fire as fast as a machine gun.

Rhythm games and menus can be spammed faster than you planned.

Vanilla Unity
1// A tool can click this as fast as it wants
2if (Mouse.current.leftButton.wasPressedThisFrame)
3this.Shoot();
With Anti-Cheat
1// Now the click is limited
2if (ProtectedInput.GetMouseButtonDown(MouseButton.Left))
3this.Shoot();

100 clicks a second → still 10 shots

The Solution
Solved

Limit the click. Catch the cheater.

Swap your click check for ProtectedInput. A real player can still click as fast as your game allows.

  • Works for mouse, keyboard, gamepad, and touch
  • Rate limit clicks per second (default is 10)
  • Extra clicks are cachable, so nothing is lost

What to expect

Protected Input,
the way Unity teams expect.

Same click, fair speed

You change the click check. Mouse, keyboard, gamepad, and touch all work.

Real players do not notice

Rate limit clicks per second (default is 10), and a slightly faster click is cached and applied next frame.

Tools do not get extra shots

An auto clicker at 100 clicks a second still only gets 10 actions. That matches a fast honest player at the limit.

You get told when it is too fast

Define an upper limit for clicks per second (default is 30). When a button is detected trying to exceed this limit, Anti-Cheat flags the player as cheater. The rate limit still applies.

Each player is counted alone

In local multiplayer, one person's macro does not mark another player as cheater. Each button on each controller has its own limit.
