Definition
LZMA, the Lempel-Ziv-Markov chain algorithm, compresses a stream as one solid block. It searches a wide window for repeated sequences and encodes the matches with a range coder, which is why the files are small. Decompression walks that block from the beginning. Both compressing and decompressing take longer than LZ4.
Relevance
A small LZMA bundle suits a download the player does not already have. The first load unpacks the whole bundle into the cache on the device. Later loads read from that cache and do not download the bundle again.
Example
An AssetBundle of shared UI is built with the default LZMA compression. The download is small. The first time the game loads it, Unity unpacks the whole bundle into the cache. The next launch reads the UI from that cache.
