SafeBrowse is intentionally offline-first. That keeps checks fast, explainable, and under your control.
Runs locally
URL analysis happens in the browser. SafeBrowse does not send browsing data to GuardingPearSoftware servers.
No external reputation APIs
There is no third-party threat-intel lookup in the current versions. Decisions come from local heuristics.
No account required
Install and use it without creating a profile, signing in, or syncing preferences to a cloud service.
Minimal local storage
Only sensitivity and your allow/block domain decisions are stored in Chrome local storage, not browsing history.
No analytics cookies
The extension does not include analytics SDKs or create tracking cookies for product telemetry.
Scoped permissions
Uses tabs, storage, activeTab, scripting, and contextMenus. It does not request host_permissions for all URLs.

Additional checks cover punycode, IP hosts (IPv4/IPv6), unusual ports, suspicious TLDs, phishing keywords, shorteners, risky file extensions, Unicode characters, mixed writing systems, and on-page signals such as hidden frames or scam wording.

We would rather be clear about what SafeBrowse does and does not do than oversell protection.
Heuristic, not absolute
SafeBrowse highlights suspicious URL and page patterns. It cannot guarantee that a site is safe or unsafe.
No cloud reputation feed
There is no live blocklist sync or third-party reputation lookup. New scam domains may not match a local rule yet.
Signals can be incomplete
Some threats do not leave strong URL clues. A clean score is not a substitute for careful browsing judgment.
Chrome-focused today
SafeBrowse ships as a Chrome Manifest V3 extension. Other browsers are not supported in the current release.
